ready for the carving [et al]

Post by Elias Kappo-Selway on Sun Nov 26, 2017 2:12 am

All Elias felt was pain. For a quick moment, he completely forgot what had happened and thought maybe he had gotten blackout drunk with Finley. He felt like everything was normal, like he was in his dorm room and just hadn't opened his eyes yet.

Then everything flooded back and he felt unbearable fear take over his body. He worked as hard as he could just to keep himself from trembling. What would he see when he opened his eyes? Where would he be? Where did that guy take him? Was he there waiting for him? Was he about to be killed?

Rhiannon looked around for him. Elias, look around, she said. It's safe...for now. She was on edge, moreso than he'd ever experienced.

Elias took a deep breath as he slowly opened his eyes. He was laying on a bed of prickly hay in what looked like a run-down but large and tall barn. He had no idea where he was -- was he even on Nadar anymore? It smelled like animals even though none were around.

He tried to look around, but winced in pain from when that guy had knocked him out. He felt violated, having no idea what had happened between that moment and this one. Why did he take him away? Was someone else here? Where was that guy and when was he coming back? Was he here now?

Breathe, Rhiannon offered while looking around. There are others here. She couldn't necessarily tell who else was here, but she and Elias alike wondered if they knew each other.

    What was happening??

The trip to wherever the hell they were had been the scariest hours of Poppy's life. Unlike Axel, Poppy had never lost consciousness, and the man (Axel's father!!) had made it a living hell. Eventually he had dumped her and Axel unceremoniously into the barn, vowing to return in the morning. Poppy had cowered in the corner with Axel's seemingly near-lifeless body for a long time, fearing his return.

After sobbing herself dry and screaming until her throat was hoarse she'd tried to look around her prison. The smells filling her nose and the hay underfoot told her they were in a barn of some sort, but she had no idea where. And it was so dark in said barn it was disorienting, anyway. Eventually she'd realized there was someone else in the barn with them, but without a light source she couldn't get a good look at them.

After realizing there was no hope in escaping before the sun started to rise, she'd crawled back into the corner where Axel still lay and pulled his head into her lap. She rhythmically ran her fingers through his hair. Over and over, for hours she'd done this, whispering both to him and to herself. "It'll be okay. We'll be okay. Everything is okay." But as the hours passed and Axel and their companion didn't stir, she felt less and less sure of her words. What if she had to face the evil man alone when they came back? What if Axel never woke up? She wanted to cry, thinking about that, but had no energy left. All she could do was continue to brush his hair with her fingers and whisper words of reassurance into the dark and quiet barn.

He'd wake up, he had to.

Suddenly, from across the room, Poppy heard a stirring. She strained her eyes in the dark. "H-hello?" she rasped quietly.

Axel awoke--for real this time, awake and aware of it--with his head pounding and his body sore and his face throbbing. He groaned as foggy, jumbled memories rushed back into his head. His father, showing up and attacking him and Poppy. Burning his arm. Being beaten to the ground. After that everything was vague and spotty as he'd drifted in and out of consciousness.

Through the pain and fogginess he became aware that he was being...soothed? Someone was gently stroking his hair, whispering something he couldn't make out but imagined sounded reassuring. He blinked his eyes open just as the clio said,

    Poppy wrote:"H-hello?"

"Poppy?" he said. He strained his eyes to look up at her through the darkness. It made his head hurt worse so he groaned and closed them again. "What's happening?"

Elias heard a few voices in the distance, and somehow managed to vaguely recognize someone saying a name he recognized. Poppy.

Elias' stomach dropped even further, which he didn't think would even be possible in a situation like this. Of course he'd be here with someone that he'd intentionally burned bridges with. Someone from his family that he'd effectively cut out and pushed away. But honestly, Elias couldn't even think about that right now -- his anxiety about their severed familial connections was muted by his overall anxiety and adrenaline of the situations.

"Poppy?" he asked, forcing himself to push through the pain and turn toward the clio he heard speaking from the same corner of the barn room they were in. "Poppy, it's...it's Elias..."

I bet she can hear you, Rhiannon said, trying to be reassuring but being ultimately unsuccessful at doing so.

I doubt she even wants to, Elias thought. After his mother has disappeared, he'd taken out all of his frustrations on his cousins. At least he and Senna had gotten a chance to reconnect -- he and Poppy had never gotten the opportunity, mostly because he hadn't tried to create said opportunity. She probably hated him, and he wouldn't blame her.

Can you please put all of your drama on the backburner? Rhiannon urged, trying to bring Elias back to reality. That's the least of your problems right now. I'm sure she's relieved to even have someone here that she knows, Elias.

Elias hoped Rhiannon was right and maybe they could work together to try and escape out of this place.

Poppy was overwhelmed with relief when Axel's eyes fluttered and his body started to move slightly. "Axel?" she said, feeling her heart race. The noises from across the way were forgotten momentarily, so happy was she to know that Axel was awake. "Gods, I was so afraid, I was just, I was so..." she didn't have words. It almost didn't make sense, how much more okay she felt, just knowing that Axel was awake. They were still stuck in this place, still held hostage by the psychotic skulled-man, and Axel was still wounded. But just knowing she wasn't alone was enough to make her feel so thankful. Knowing Axel wasn't dead, knowing she wouldn't have to comfort herself in the dark.

She was so caught up in Axel's awakening that a voice from the darkness startled her.

    Elias wrote:Poppy? Poppy...it's Elias...

Poppy froze, her hands on Axel's forehead freezing in place. The body across the room was Elias? Her Elias, her cousin?

"El?" she asked softly, her voice unsure and suddenly even more scared. Why were they locked in a barn with her cousin? His voice had sounded so pained--how badly was he hurt? How long had he been here before she and Axel were thrown in? "A-are you okay?" she asked. "Can you come over here?" She didn't want to leave Axel, and wasn't sure if he could move, anyway.

So many things didn't make sense, and Poppy was so exhausted from panicking all night that she had a hard time clearing her head.

Elias was so happy to hear Poppy speak back to him. Even hearing her voice, which he hadn't heard in ages, was reassuring. He didn't know why this was happening to them, but he was so unbelievably relieved that he didn't have to figure this out all on his own. He wasn't sure he even could.

"I think so, yeah..." he said in a way that didn't sound convincing, but he was going to try at the very least. He pushed through the pain and slowly crawled over to Poppy and the guy she was with, wondering what the hell his kidnapper had done to him after knocking him out. He shouldn't be in this much pain just from a punch/hit -- maybe he was just really rough with him while he was knocked out.

As Elias grew closer, he realized how terrified and rustled Poppy looked and how beaten to a bloody pulp the guy was. "W-what is happening?" he breathed, propping himself up next to Poppy. "Who did this to you?"

Axel was vaguely aware of the voice coming from a short distance away, but only once he thought he heard the name "Elias" did he start trying to really focus on what was going on around him. Elias was here? Henri's son/Poppy's cousin Elias? That didn't make any sense, why would he be here? Why were any of them here? Where was here?

He slowly began to lift himself up off of Poppy's lap, his head swimming. His stomach gave a nauseous lurch but he held everything down. How hard had he been hit? He managed to sort of sit up, his back against a wooden wall. He put his aching head in both his hands.

Elias wrote:"W-what is happening? Who did this to you?"

There was a long, almost painful pause. Axel didn't want to answer, but Elias deserved to know who the psychopath keeping them here was. "Cillian Reyes. My father." The last word came out with a lot of bitterness and shame, but also some resignation. He suddenly had the sick revelation that he wasn't even surprised his own father had done this to him. "But..."

But it wasn't even about me. He said he was after Poppy. Why? What would he want with Poppy and Elias? What would anyone want with them? He felt like there was some obvious answer he was missing, but his thoughts were still too jumbled to figure it out.

"H-he took us from school," she said after Axel had explained they'd been kidnapped by his father. "We were going out, and he just took us right there, from the street!" Her voice sounded strange, even to her. Like it wasn't her voice at all, but that of a stranger. "But you--you were here first. What happened to you?" she asked, trying to process the fact that Elias of all clio was here with them. He had to of been taken from school as well, right?

"He told us that he came for me," she said suddenly as a thought came to her, interrupting anything Elias may have been ready to say. "Do you think it's for ransom? Because of Mom?"

Elias vaguely recognized the voice that came from the beat up guy, and quickly realized it was Axel, the son of his dad's new girlfriend / old friend. His face was so beat up and it was so dark that Elias hadn't even known it was him. Elias felt awful for him, and nervous about what these clio would do to them next.

As Elias tried to process what was happening (he knew the guy that kidnapped him couldn't have been Axel's dad, he was way too young), Poppy was adding more details to the story. Why was he taken from Nadar when they were taken from Martha's Vineyard? Maybe Poppy was right and this was about her mom.

"I thought maybe it was someone who knew my dad," Elias offered, staring at the floor with empty eyes. "But I have no idea...my dad called and told me to come home and made it sound really important. I figured it had something to do with my mom, but...this guy took me right when I got off the ferry. I didn't even get to see my dad." Elias sniffled and wiped his nose. He tried not to cry, but his body just did what it wanted. He was so confused.

Spenser had arrived on the island before his father did, so he dumped the unconscious Elias in the barn and waited for Cillian in the abandoned house that was on the same property. When his father arrived adorning the ridiculous buffalo skull, Spenser couldn't help but tease his father. Cillian would always go above and beyond just for a few thrills.

Not only had his father captured Poppy, but he also happened to stumble upon Axel as well. What a treat! And on Neewollah of all nights!

A few hours had passed after father and son had dropped their victims off in the barn, and Spenser decided it was time to pay them all a visit. It was still very dark, not an inch of sunlight was peaking out. Spenser took a moment to admire the starry sky. He could understand why clio would want to live here, no light pollution, very quiet. It would probably get boring though, at least for Spenser.

Once he reached the barn, he threw the huge barn doors open with a loud bang, and shouted, "Rise and shine, you little pieces of shit!"

Spenser took no time to open the small electrical box beside the doors to switch on the lights inside. It was dimly lit, but enough so for him to see his three new toys, and for them to see him. He grinned, waving his hand in a circular motion, and shackling each clio's ankles together so that they couldn't run.

"Welcome to the show folks!" He shouted dramatically. "I see the audience already knows each other?"

Oh. Of course, that was it. The obvious answer Axel had been missing. Their parents, their dads, had both been in that criminal trafficking thing alongside his parents. Could this be something to do with that? Did it even fucking matter at this point? Poppy was shaking like a leaf and Elias was on the verge of tears. He felt like he should say something to be comforting, but there was nothing comforting to say.

Bang! He grimaced in pain when the doors were flung open suddenly, slamming against the walls, sending what felt like shockwaves through his skull. It was none fucking other than Spenser, who quickly encased their ankles in solid stone before any of them could even react.

Axel glared at his brother, not wanting to show any fear. Spenser was a fucking animal, it was like he could fucking smell fear and it just provoked him into attacking.

"Aunt Estela?" Poppy said, now even more confused than ever. The way Elias told the story it made it seem like it had been some sort of set-up. Uncle Henri had called him home urgently and then he'd been kidnapped right off the ferry? She was about to ask more questions when suddenly the doors to the barn burst open.

Poppy let out a scream, startled by the doors as they slammed open and then fell against the walls loudly. Her hands instinctively grabbed the hands of the boys sitting on either side of her, and she clasped them both tightly. She blinked in the light and saw that it wasn't Cillian who entered, but Spenser--the boy she knew to be Axel's brother.

Within seconds her ankles were covered in rock, shackled together by the eilemaiden it seemed Axel's father and brother both shared. Poppy pushed herself against the wall behind her, wishing with everything she had that she could meld into it.

Elias tried as best as he could to not start shaking immediately when his kidnapper entered the room dramatically. Though he knew he would see him again, he was hoping that somehow he'd gotten caught and someone was coming to save him and Poppy and Axel. Any hope he had left deep in his heart was quickly fading as his ankles became shackled.

"That's him," he barely managed to breathe out to Poppy and Axel. "He took me from Nadar." He wanted to avert his eyes from the man but his eyes felt glued to the monster in front of them. He was so scared to look away, so frightened of what would happen if he did. He couldn't protect himself and he couldn't protect his cousin or new friend/acquaintance Axel. And neither of them looked like they had much to offer either, after what they'd been through.

Who could save them? Would they even make it out of this alive?

Cillian had wanted to make the kids in the barn get a little more lost in their heads before he stormed in, but Spenser had gotten bored and frustrated with waiting and had barged in on his own; therefore, Cillian decided to get the party started and, a few moments after Spenser had burst through the doors and turned on the dim lights, Cillian's large frame appeared behind him.

Mud still covered his skin, maybe even moreso now, but the skull that was once atop his head was now gone and his long hair was a bit disheveled. He wore overalls casually with only one side buttoned, the overalls dirty with dried mud, dirt, and blood stains (this was his favorite torture outfit) and hanging over his intimidatingly large and tattooed frame without a shirt underneath.

"You took it easy on the boy, didn't you Spenser?" he asked, taking a look at Axel's face versus Elias'. "That's alright, we'll have plenty of time to even that out now won't we?" He clapped his hands and rubbed them together as if he were starting some large and exciting project. Which he was.

"We're so glad you all know each other," he said, taking some large steps toward the three shackled clio on the floor. "That'll make things much more fun for us."

Spenser didn't even bat an eyelash when his father appeared from behind. His eyes swept over all three of them, then stopped on Elias when his father mentioned him. He had gone easy on him, but he had just wanted to get it done and over with. He didn't like to waste time and energy. Elias' face was bruising pretty good though, where Spenser had hit him. Then his eyes fell on Poppy. What the fuck was she wearing?

"What are you suppose to be," Spenser asked her, almost conversationally. "A fuckin' garden or something?"

Axel tried to keep his brave face on when his dad entered the barn behind Spenser, but when his dad's gaze swept over his face he couldn't help but look away nervously. He had tried to stand up to him back at the Vineyard, to protect Poppy, and had just gotten the shit beat out of him. Now he wasn't in any position to protect anyone, least of all himself. Although if there was one thing he was proud of, even if it hadn't done them any good in the end, it was the hand-shaped burns that still marked his father's arm. He hoped they fucking hurt.

What was going to happen to them now? He had no idea what was in store for them now, or if they'd even survive. Heart beating a little faster, he squeezed Poppy's hand, trying to comfort himself as much as her.

Spenser wrote:"What are you suppose to be? A fuckin' garden or something?"

Axel glowered at Spenser once again. Was this how the sick asshole got off, by tormenting innocent girls? He wanted to tell Spenser to leave her the fuck alone, but that would probably just make Spenser (and his father) want to hurt Poppy even more than they clearly already did.

Both Elias and Axel were silent as their captors spoke around them, but never really to them. Poppy, too, was quiet. She wanted to scream, wanted to run...but there wasn't even a chance of standing with the rock cuffs on her ankles. They bit into her skin, and were as heavy as her stone mask had been earlier in the evening.

She wished her dad was here--Adhbhar also, but so gentle with his eilemaiden. Poppy did not know the specifics of his past, had shied away from the information whenever it was offered to her, but she knew enough. Knew that Dad and Uncle Henri escaped from clio like these--probably worse clio than these.

She wasn't brave or strong like her dad and uncle--she was barely holding it together. She'd taken everything in her life for granted, and now it was too late. There was nothing she could do. She was weak, and panicked, and terrified.

She squeezed back when Axel squeezed her hand, and then squeezed Elias', too. Maybe Cillian and Spenser thought it was funny that the three of them knew each other, but Poppy was thankful. Something about having them here made her feel just slightly stronger.

"Fuck you," she spat, suddenly. She wasn't sure if she'd said it in response to Spenser's comment, or just to the situation in general, but she felt slightly better after the words left her mouth. She glared at the father and son, looking like a spitting kitten that had been backed up into a corner by something much larger than itself.

A kitten that stood no chance at winning anything.

    "Fuck you," she spat, suddenly.

Cillian's mouth curved into a huge smile and his jaw dropped. "Wow!" he bellowed, crossing his arms across his chest as he looked down at the girl. "You've got some spunk in you when your mouth isn't full of dirt, huh?"

He took a few more steps, now directly in front of them. He bent down, setting his elbows on his bent knees as he looked Poppy right in her face and spat in it.

Standing back up, Cillian moved to another part of the barn where he grabbed a handful of old, rusty tools. "Why don't we put that mouth to use?" he suggested. "Spenser, how about you choose which of the boys we'll play with first." Using his eilemaiden, he moved a dirty and dented stone stool into the light while he messed with a large pair of pliers in one hand.

Spenser raised his eyebrows in impressed surprise when Poppy lashed out at him, but laughed like she had told a really good joke.

"Babe," he said. "You are in no position to be getting all defiant toward me."

He smirked with satisfaction when his father spit in the little bitches face. As Cillian stood back up to grab the tools, Spenser leaned over to grab Poppy's face between his thumb and fingers, much like he did with Elias' earlier, and squeezed hard. "You're in my world now princess."

Cillian wrote:"Spenser, how about you choose which of the boys we'll play with first.

Spenser straightened back up, and studied the two boys thoughtfully.

"I dunno dad," he replied. "Maybe this little Elias punk," he decided, pointing at him with his thumb. "Axel looks pretty fucked up already."

Poppy gritted her teeth together, forcing herself to look Cillian in the eye as he bent down to her level. She was trembling, but had her eyes open as he spit at her. Before she had time to really react Spenser grabbed her face painfully.

She stared at him too, her jaw still set, but didn't say anything back. She felt the spit dripping down her face, and resisted the urge to wipe it away as soon as Spenser let her go. It wasn't until he stood that she wiped, feeling a rush of anger inside her. She wanted try to hit him or bite him or something, but the only good that would do would be to make them more likely to hurt her.

She couldn't help herself from screaming, "Don't you touch him!" when Cillian and Spenser started talking about hurting Elias. She knew, without a doubt, that they weren't bluffing--she'd seen Cillian do terrible things. Spenser, from the looks of him, was just as deadly. Her screaming wouldn't do any good, but she couldn't help it. She didn't want anyone to get hurt--she just...gods, if only there was something she could do. Anything.

    Everything seemed so hopeless.

Axel turned his head sharply (a mistake--it felt like there were needles rattling around in his skull) when Poppy snapped at Spenser. He continued to watch as his father leaned down to her level, and spit in her face.

You piece of shit--! he thought, grimacing with anger even as Poppy took the insult with dignity. When Spenser then took his father's place and grabbed Poppy's face, Axel gave a start towards him. If his ankles weren't shackled down, he would have lunged at him. Against his better judgment he was about to snap at Spenser to fucking let her go, but then Spenser released her and stood back up to start talking about which of them he and his dad were going to "play with." The fiery anger in Axel's chest was quickly extinguished into cold dread as his father held up a giant pair of pliers.

Spenser wrote:"I dunno dad. Maybe this little Elias punk. Axel looks pretty fucked up already."

"No--don't fucking do this," he said, horrified. He couldn't just sit here and watch his friend get tortured (by my own family), but what else could he do? If it were just him he could start a fire, which would quickly spread throughout the barn, but he couldn't do that with Poppy and Elias here. All he could do was sit here and beg. "Please don't do this!"

"Fine choice," Cillian complimented with an agreeable nod, ignoring Axel and Poppy's pleas. "Go ahead and grab him -- and Spenser, don't be gentle this time."

Cillian barely even paid any attention to Elias, who was trembling and petrified. If it weren't for his body's constant spasming, he would have looked like a scared statue, his expression frozen in time. He liked it better when they begged, but there was a particular pleasure that he got from making the quiet ones scream.

As Spenser grabbed Elias, Cillian threw the tools down on the ground so they landed with thumps and clanks. He kept the pliers in his hands though.

"So, Poppy," he started, leaving some dramatic pauses. "You and your big mouth will get to help us decide what little Elias here gets to keep! ...and also what he'll inevitably lose." Cillian frowned, his expressions clown-like in an over-the-top way. "You know Elias better than any of us -- he is your cousin after all, and truly the reason we're all here today. But we can get into that later."

Cillian walked over to Elias, whose wrists were now also shackled to keep him in place on the stool, and slammed his hands on his weak little shoulders. Elias had closed his eyes out of terror and further confusion at Cillian's most recent statement, as he had no idea what he had done to result in these horrific events.

"Do you think he'd rather keep his fingers or his toes, Poppy?" He had intentionally made the question ambiguous because he wanted to fuck with them, and planned on probably taking them both anyway.

Elias opened his mouth to say something to Poppy, but Cillian grabbed Elias' mouth with his large hand, keeping him from saying anything, all while making direct eye contact with Poppy (with a crazed expression).

"Stop it!" Poppy screamed, unable to keep herself from panicking. She lunged forward, trying to grab at the ankles of Spenser as he pulled Elias away. But she was too slow, and Spenser too quick; her shacked ankles kept her from even touching him. Instead she began to cry on her knees, losing herself to the overwhelming barrage of emotions brought forth by the situation.

Cillian wrote:Do you think he'd rather keep his fingers or his toes, Poppy?

"Please--please leave him alone. What do you want from us?" Her voice was broken and shrill. "Leave him alone! He hasn't done anything wrong, please!" All she could think to do was beg, over and over, sobbing tearlessly. She couldn't stop from looking back and forth from the monster to Elias, wishing there was something she could do.

"Don't TOUCH HIM!" she shrieked as Cillian gruffly grabbed at Elias' face. "Please! Please!" she begged again. "Please!"

"Please! Please, oh please!" Cillian mocked while laughing maniacally. He took his hand off Elias' mouth, immediately grabbing his hair and pulling his face back so they could make eye contact.

"You say a single word and I'll break your neck. You got that, kid?" Cillian threatened. Elias looked up at him silently, trying to find the courage to be defiant like his cousin, but he was too overwhelmed by fear. Elias believed that Cillian would immediately break his neck...and maybe he'd consider letting him, if only to escape being tortured, if it didn't mean that Axel and Poppy would have to watch. He wondered if watching him be tortured was really any better in the long haul...but the whole situation was too intense, confusing, and horrifying for him to try and make logic out of it.

"Good boy," Cillian said to Elias' silence, pushing Elias' head back down to its original position. Cillian looked to Poppy, who was still sobbing on the ground. "No answer yet?" he pressed, looking to Spenser impatiently. "What do you think we should do then, Spenser?"

Spenser watched his father intently, smirking when he mocked Poppy. He crossed his arms over his chest, then reached up to tap his chin thoughtfully when his father acknowledged him.

"Hmm," he hummed. "If it were me...I'd probably want to keep my fingers more than my toes."

Yes, he'd definitely need his fingers more. He started to genuinely laugh, imagining himself trying to live his life with a stub for a hand. It was so bizarre!
