Adoption had never been on Theo's mind. He'd never wanted a family, and he'd definitely never wanted a family like the one he ended up with. No, all Theo had wanted was to age out of the system and settle. He wanted freedom, wanted to be alone and to be able to make his own choices.
Though he hadn't settled yet, he had finally accomplished one thing: made his adoptive "father" so mad that he sent him away to boarding school. If Theo had to spend the rest of his unsettled days anywhere, he was so fucking glad it was here. Redfern, the closest to freedom he'd ever taste before his stupid daemon would settle and get him out of here for good.
Sure, he was leaving the few friends he'd made in the last two years in Earalas behind, but what did that matter. He'd never really cared about them anyway--they'd just been a distraction to help him pass the time. He liked it better on his own; he didn't need anybody else.
Except a roommate, Panda piped from the air where she currently hovered as a hummingbird. You gotta have one of those.
Theo shrugged from his spot on his bed. The roommate had yet to show up, and Theo was hoping that either meant the dude wasn't coming back to Redfern, or that he wouldn't be in the room often. Either of those two things would be fine with Theo, honestly.
Whatever. Until then, he was totally content with just laying on his bed. His bed. His own bed. He'd explore the campus later.
