reunited and it feels so good ;; briar

Just a few drinks, and then you can go home.

Ruby had been repeating that to herself in her head all night. Every time she went to visit her best friend, Briar, on Martha's Vineyard, she spent most of her time thinking and worrying about work, instead of actually enjoying herself. Briar loved to get her drunk, and Ruby hated it.

After playing phone tag with Briar the whole week, the two had finally gotten ahold of each other Thursday night and Briar had practically begged Ruby to come out this weekend. Ruby had finally agreed, mostly because she hadn't seen her best friend since before school had started back up, and she definitely missed the hell out of her.

Ruby had arrived on the island Friday morning, already nervous for the nights festivities, but so excited to see Briar. She made sure to pack the essentials, clothes, pajamas, something to wear out, and paperwork. Hopefully, she'd have time to work this weekend.

When she arrived at Briar's home, the two greeted each other with excited shrieks and tight hugs. They spent the whole day together, walking on the beach, going to shops, and having a nice lunch at an adorable cafe.

Now the two of them were at a loud bar, way past Ruby's bedtime, enjoying drinks and listening to live music. Ruby was already feeling slightly buzzed, but not buzzed enough to forget her work. She sat at the bar, staring blankly at her bottle of ale, watching the bubbles float up through the golden liquid. Gods was she tired.

Briar had been in the restroom, and when she came back she saw Ruby (her bestest frand and soulmate) sitting at the bar looking all forlorn. Briar was pretty wasted, but even this far gone she knew she didn't want Ruby looking forlorn at the bar! She parted the sea of drunk clio and beelined for her.

"Ruuuuby," she said, leaning over her shoulder and kissing her cheek. "You're too hot to look so sad." She grabbed Ruby's beer and took a sip of it. "And you definitely should be drinking this!" she held it out to Ruby for her to take. "Not staring at it like it's some long-lost lover."

Ruby smiled, despite her worries. Briar was right, she was here to have fun, not worry about her work. She grabbed the bottle from her friend and tried to chug it, only to sputter and cough. Embarrassed, she wiped the drool from her chin.

"I haven't gotten drunk in so long," she replied. "Probably not since the beginning of summer when school was first let out."

She took another drink, only slower this time. She was able to finish it, and reluctantly ordered another. "Oh Bries," she sighed. "I'm totally going to regret this."

Briar smiled amusedly as her friend tried to chug her beer and failed. "I love you, my pure little squirrel," she said, grabbing her up and pulling her to the dance floor.

The two friends danced, with bodies pressed up against them and music blaring. These were the kind of nights Briar lived for, especially when she had Ruby with her. "I think that guy is staring at you!" she shouted into Ruby's ear after awhile of dancing. Ruby had drank her way through three beers and had taken two shots at Briar's urging. She was now sufficiently drunk, and loopy.

After a few, or maybe several, drinks later, Ruby was finally significantly drunk, and was actually enjoying herself. She was sweaty and hot, her already crazy hair looking even crazier, sticking up every which way, and stuck to her forehead. She run a hand through her hair, unsticking it for only a moment.

Briar wrote:“I think that guy is staring at you!”

Ruby looked toward the direction that Briar was indicating, and indeed, a good looking guy was staring in their direction. Ruby felt herself blush, but was thankful that it was hot in the bar they were dancing in.

Ruby never really thought she was that pretty. She was pretty enough, sure, but she always thought she was too skinny and her hair too crazy. Compared to her best friend, she was like a dusty broom.

“There’s no way he’s looking at me!” She yelled into Briar’s ear, as the guy started making his way through the crowd toward them. “He’s definitely looking at you!”
